Cappuccini Test
We have performed three cycles of the Cappuccini Test across the region, looking at areas of good practice and sharing these with departments in order to improve patient care.
The Cappuccini Test for auditing supervision of non-consultant anaesthetists was developed by Dr David Bogod following an investigation into the death of Frances Cappuccini which identified a lack of clear lines of consultant supervision.
A trainee ran the audit at one hospital in the region, and following this, we have run it as a region-wide project in order to improve the culture of supervision as well as awareness for all theatre staff of the importance of knowing who the supervising consultant is, and how they can be contacted in case of emergency.
